Presbyterian Women is an organized group of women at First Presbyterian Church. The group is connected to the Presbytery of Baltimore and The Presbyterian Church USA. All women of the church belong to the Presbyterian Women’s Group (PW), however some are active and some inactive.
PW currently has two active circles. The Ann Evans Circle meets on the first Monday of each month at noon. The members of this group bring a sandwich and share the Bible study lesson, a short meeting and social time together. The Dorcas Annie Laurie Circle meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 AM. This group has light refreshments, Bible study and a short meeting. There is a Circle leader for each group to coordinate the monthly meetings. The Circle Leader shares what the PW Board has discussed and the plans of action to support a variety of missions.
PW has officers, chairs of committees, and fundraising events. One of their biggest events is the Advent Tryst started in 1969 by Ann McConaughy and the Rev. Schreffler. It is a service designed and led by the PW. A local charity is selected and all monies given in the offering that day are given to the charity. All women from churches in Harford County are invited to attend.
PW has several small offerings collected at each meeting to support circle activities. Fundraising is also done through several events including a bake sale, nut sale, and a Trash and Treasure Sale or Card Party. These activities are held to fund the PW missions. Some of the local missions PW supports are the Wilson Center, Meals on Wheels, FCCAU, Habitat for Humanity, Shreffler House, Boys and Girls Club, Deacons’ Fund, CIS mission trip and Vacation Bible School. Statewide, they support the GMBC Board of Lady Managers and the Presbyterian Home. Globally, they support the Child Fund International Fund and Samaritan’s Purse
PW is responsible for the church kitchen and has supplies on hand for their events. They also make sure that the kitchen is clean and passes a health inspection each year.
PW welcomes any woman to join them and become an active member.
